Italian food with friends

I have all kinds of friends, friends who I know since I was in high school, some friends I met back in college, friends from church and friends that have become friends along the way and friends that even though I don't see very often are still very dear to my heart.
Well these are my friends that I met back in Jr College and we tried to meet at least once a month to catch up and keep each other accountable, some of us are married, some others are single and others are in a relationship but the we have two things in common we love food and we love to laugh!
so every time we get together we always break bread together and laugh until our cheeks and our bellies hurt.
I love this ladies and this past time they wanted to try a new place so I took them to Devanti Enoteca in Little italy, we shared all kinds of cheeses, salads, pasta, pizza and my personal favorite Focaccia with honey comb and finished the night with a walk around Little Italy.
we had a great time and I cannot wait for next month to get together again and also meet with the ones who couldn't make it this time.

Oh Baby {Week 7}

So I've been reading a lot about pregnancy, the dos and don'ts and all that jazz. One of the things that I've read the most is that it is nice to keep a journal.
So what a better way to keep family who are far away and friends updated about our journey to parenthood than to start blogging about it.

I will be recording my weight and waist size, I will start at 1 since I have gained a pound and therefore my belly is an inch bigger since we found out we were pregnant.

Week 7
baby is the size of a Blueberry
Weight +8 pounds
Waist +1 inches
Cravings: nothing in particular yet
Dislikes: the smell of peanut butter

One of the early pregnancy symptom that I've experienced the most is fatigue. I am sleepy and tired all day and all night long. It does not matter how many naps I take, how early or how late I go to sleep at night it just never goes away. I have been able to manage by taking a nap in the middle of the day since I am on summer break and by going to sleep pretty early at night, it just doesn't seem to go away.

I have also experienced nausea almost every day but it is very mild and I seem to get it just a bit stronger if I go without eating for longs periods of time, so I make sure I carry crackers or veggies with me all the time.

One of the biggest challenges for me so far is getting used to drinking so much water. I am ok at drinking water on a daily basis but 64oz a day is a lot. The closest i've been to the 64oz required is 50/64 which is not bad but I'll continue to try.

Yesterday I started feeling my muscles moving and making room for my baby to grow, I was laughing pretty hard and all of the sudden I felt a pain in the middle of my belly and ever since I've felt my abdominal muscles pulling and stretching at times and it just feels weird but nothing I can't handle.

Other than that I don't feel much of a difference yet, it has been good so far.

Coming Soon...

OUR FIRST BABY IS ON THE WAY!

We are so overwhelmed with joy. About 4 weeks ago we found out we are expecting our first baby.

About a month ago I started to feel different, I was tired and sleepy almost all day every day, it didn't matter how many naps I'd take I was still tired and ready to go to bed at 8pm at night and when I started feeling sick to my stomach I knew it was time to take a trip to the drug store and get some pregnancy tests.
A million and one thoughts went through my head, I'd never gone to the store to buy p.tests so this in itself was a new adventure, they have so many, some with a smiley face I guess if it is a happy face you are pregnant and if it is a sad face you are not, some with a plus or a minus, some with one bar and two bars and some with the word "pregnant" or "not pregnant" so I went with the most obvious one, the last one I didn't want to be confused I wanted to read the actual words.
When I got home from the store Jonathan was still at work, so I waited a couple of hours which felt like days.

As soon as he got home I ran to the bathroom and locked myself in with the infamous stick. I waited and got our very first "Pregnant" I was so excited and yet I couldn't believe at the same time, I had dreamt of that day for so long that I couldn't believe that it was finally here, the day I'd been longing for was happening at that very moment.
I walked as fast as I could back to the room and couldn't wait to tell him the news, I couldn't plan a cute and original reveal for my husband, "ain't nobody got time for that" when you have such news!  I just stood in awe of the news holding the test and showed it to him with a huge smile on my face.

We wanted to make sure everything was going well and that we were in fact pregnant so a couple of weeks and many positive tests later we went to the doctor and got the same result and couldn't be any happier.

Time flew by while we processed what was going on, and when we were 100% sure we were pregnant we told our family and very closed friends. We couldn't hold it any longer this joy was way to big to hold it in. Everyone was of course extremely happy to receive such news.

In the midst of everything that is going through my head, the good, the overwhelming thoughts of being a mom for the first time, the uncertainty of the unknown and what it is to come I can just hold on to God's word and the fact that His perfect will is coming to pass in our lives in His perfect timing.
God gave us a word when we started seeking His guidance about when we should start trying to have a baby and he reminded us of His faithfulness and His perfect love. We had been waiting for this moment for a while and at times we had questions weather it was time or not we didn't want to miss it, but we also didn't want our will to be done but His. It was never a question of IF but it was always a matter of WHEN and NOW is the time and we are certain that His favor and blessing is with us and our baby.

Psalms 145: 13-14
Your Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

We have waited, we seek His face constantly and now we have been rewarded with the ultimate privilege to be able to carry a baby and bring him/her to this world.

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

picnic at the park

For my birthday my girlfriends Mayra and Jo (whom by the way found out this month that she is pregnant also!!!) took me to the Twilight at the park and we had a lovely picnic at the steps while we listen to latin music and watched people dance.
It was a lot of fun! and since Mayra forgot the cheesecake at home we had to light a candle on a little straw pastry.
It was a very nice birthday treat, Thank You ladies!!!

Father's day BBQ

Every time we get the chance to get together and celebrate my dad is a blast. He has the best stories, loves to tell the same jokes over and over, has the silliest dance moves and he is not ashamed of it.
For father's day he wanted to barbecue so we all gathered together after church and had some great conversations and awesome food.
I am extremely grateful for having a dad who is always there and gives us his unconditional love and we love celebrating him as often as we can.
After being all done and watching a movie at home, we couldn't resist and took the party to the movie theater to watch Man of Steel and celebrated with my husband's parents to finish off a great Father's day.

birthday fun with glasses

My brothers and I surprised mom with an ice cream cake and a funny glasses party, since she had to work that morning and dad was going to be at work in the evening we had a little time with her.
we laughed, ate pizza and cake while watching a movie we really enjoy the little moments.
Of course we all got together the next day to celebrate my mom's and my birthday but I didn't take any pictures, why I don't know, but this year there is no proof that I celebrated my 27th birthday.
awe well, I have the memories and the laughs and that's what counts, right...right?

This month was full of fun activities, we traveled to visit family, it was my last month working at the children center so I had ton of fun with my kids, lots of friends graduated, went to Disney California Adventure for the first time for my brother's birthday, it was definitely the perfect way to kick off the summer.
